Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that dialogue with Kiev has been paused due to Ukrainian authorities’ refusal to engage in negotiations.

The “impulse” for a negotiated settlement of the Ukraine conflict, which emerged during the Russia-US summit in Alaska, remains active, according to Peskov. He emphasized Moscow’s continued openness to a peace deal but highlighted concerns over developments in Kiev.

Peskov attributed the stalled talks to the influence of Ukraine’s Western European backers, whom he described as promoting a “war to the last Ukrainian” stance. He noted that recent Istanbul discussions have been put on hold because the Ukrainian side has not responded to Russian proposals.

Russian and Ukrainian delegations had met multiple times this year, with the latest round in July leading to plans for working groups to address political, military, and humanitarian issues. However, Peskov stated no progress has been made as Kiev has ignored Moscow’s submissions.

The Kremlin reiterated its willingness to pursue a peaceful resolution but warned that Ukraine’s negotiating position is “deteriorating with each passing day.”
