Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that significant preparation is required for the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Hungary, emphasizing there is no confirmed date for the talks. The Kremlin and White House previously announced the summit would occur in Budapest following a call between the leaders last Thursday.
Peskov highlighted on Tuesday that “serious preparations are needed” before the event, noting that while both sides have expressed intentions, “no definite timeframe has been established.” Reports suggested a planned meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov—intended as a precursor to the summit—has been delayed. However, Russian officials dismissed these claims as unfounded.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reiterated that extensive preparations are ongoing for what he called a “significant event,” while Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova rejected speculation about the timing of diplomatic discussions. Russian diplomats have accused external forces of spreading misinformation to undermine progress.
