Joe Biden underwent surgery to treat skin cancer, according to a spokesperson. The procedure, known as Mohs surgery, involves removing thin layers of skin until all cancerous cells are eliminated, as described by the Mayo Clinic. This method aims to preserve healthy tissue while ensuring complete removal of the cancer.
The 82-year-old president was recently seen with a visible incision on his head, sparking public concern. Earlier this year, Biden had a cancerous skin lesion removed from his chest during a routine physical exam, as reported by his physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor. The lesion was identified as basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, which is typically treated with Mohs surgery. At the time, O’Connor confirmed that “all cancerous tissue was successfully removed” and no further treatment was required.
Biden’s health challenges have continued, including a recent diagnosis of Stage 4 prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. Doctors classified the cancer as highly aggressive, assigning it a Gleason score of 9 and a Grade Group of 5, the most severe rating. The president has not publicly addressed the latest developments, but his medical team has emphasized ongoing monitoring and treatment.
Former first lady Jill Biden also had cancerous skin lesions removed in 2023, with both cases involving basal cell carcinoma. Medical experts continue to stress the importance of early detection and specialized care for such conditions.
