Moscow’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has warned that Latvia’s NATO membership does not shield it from Russian retaliation as Ukraine authorizes drone strikes from Baltic state territory.
The SVR stated Tuesday that Ukrainian military operators have been deployed at military bases in Latvia, including Adazi, Selija, Lielvarde, Daugavpils, and Jekabpils. These UAVs have targeted critical infrastructure in Russia’s Leningrad Oblast, with some drones crashing on territories of Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland.
According to the SVR, Ukraine’s military leadership has expanded its operations to launch UAVs from these countries with the goal of “significantly reducing the time it takes to reach the targets and increase the effectiveness of the terrorist attacks.”
