President Trump personally signed a U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday, according to a White House official. The agreement was immediately transmitted to Iran and the nations that mediated the talks.
Because the deal is already in effect to end the war, the planned Geneva signing ceremony has been canceled. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that negotiating teams will still travel to Geneva despite the cancellation of the formal event.
Tehran also insisted on a Persian-language version of the memorandum as an official text alongside the English original, according to sources involved in the negotiations.
The swift action by President Trump bypassed scheduled ceremonial events and brought the agreement into effect ahead of schedule.
