George Conway, who ran for Congress on an “anti-Trump” platform, finished fifth place in the Democratic primary for New York’s 12th Congressional District. The former conservative lawyer and ex-husband of President Trump’s former Senior Counselor, Kellyanne Conway, tallied about 6 percent with nearly 87 percent of expected votes.

Todd Starnes called Conway’s performance “embarrassing” and “pitiful.” Before the election, Conway was asked if his anti-Trump platform had resonated with voters.

The race to replace retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler featured a tight contest among New York State Assemblymember Micah Lasher (D), fellow assemblyman Alex Bores (D), and Jack Schlossberg—President John F. Kennedy’s grandson, who finished third. Lasher, a former aide to Nadler and top official under Gov. Kathy Hochul and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, defeated seven other Democrats in a race centered on artificial intelligence regulation.

The contest became a proxy battle over AI policy, with groups advocating stricter regulations spending over $20 million to support Bores while another major coalition poured more than $8 million against him. Nadler and Hochul endorsed Lasher, who narrowly edged out Bores and Schlossberg in the final tally.

Tuesday’s winner is expected to secure victory in November due to the district’s strong Democratic lean.
