A vessel associated with Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was reportedly struck by a drone strike while en route to Gaza, according to statements from the Global Sumud Flotilla. The incident occurred in Tunisian waters, with organizers confirming damage to the deck and storage areas of the Portuguese-flagged ship. No injuries were reported among those on board.

The attack, described as an “Israeli drone strike” by activists, targeted the flotilla’s “Family Boat,” which was carrying members of the group’s Steering Committee, including Thunberg. Footage shared online purportedly shows the vessel engulfed in flames following the explosion. Activists emphasized that all passengers and crew remained unharmed.

The Global Sumud Flotilla condemned the incident as part of a broader effort to “intimidate and derail” their mission to break Gaza’s blockade. The group stated it would continue its campaign despite the attack, framing the action as an attempt to suppress solidarity with Palestinians.

Thunberg, who has previously faced detention by Israeli authorities during a failed Gaza voyage in June, reiterated her commitment to the cause. In a video statement, she claimed the boat targeted was part of a “humanitarian mission” and accused Israel of orchestrating attacks to prevent aid from reaching Gaza. She called for global attention to the conflict, stating, “This will not stop our struggle.”

Israeli officials have previously labeled the flotilla’s volunteers as “terrorists,” warning they would face arrest if attempting to bypass the naval blockade. No nation has officially claimed responsibility for the drone strike, but activists insist the attack underscores escalating tensions over Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
