U.S. and Mexican forces executed a joint military operation along the border near El Paso, Texas, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, yesterday.

The mission, described as a “mirror” patrol, included armored MRAPs, all-terrain vehicles, and horse-mounted units. Military gunners were positioned at readiness on truck-mounted weapons along the southern side of the border.

The operation follows President Donald Trump’s administration efforts to address cartel threats directly. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has reportedly shifted her stance under pressure from Washington, agreeing to deploy military forces alongside U.S. authorities in response to escalating violence from cartels operating in the region—including the Juarez Cartel, a group designated a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. Department of State last month after being linked to the 2019 massacre of nine Americans in Sonora.

U.S. Border Patrol Special Operations Supervisor Hamid Nikseresht stated: “Our message has been and will always be very clear: if you have engaged with terrorist activity or supported these organizations, you will face severe legal consequences.”

Additionally, Colombia’s new president recently authorized joint military operations against cartels in the region.
