A 23-year-old Tucson police recruit was killed and his fiancée, a Pima County corrections officer, was wounded in a shooting inside their Arizona home Wednesday morning.
Deputies were called shortly before 6 a.m. to a residence in the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive, roughly 17 miles southwest of Tucson. They found Ramirez dead inside the home. His fiancée had also been shot and was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening; she remains stable.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department identified Ramirez as having previously served as a Pima County corrections officer before joining the Tucson Police Department as a recruit. The couple shares a child, though officials initially described them as married before clarifying they were engaged.
Investigators are seeking two masked suspects believed to be Hispanic males wearing all-black clothing and ski masks during the attack. Authorities report the suspects may have fled in a gray Acura MDX from model years 2007 through 2013, reportedly missing its fuel door cover. The sheriff’s department urges the public to watch for this vehicle and contact law enforcement immediately if seen or with information about the suspects.
The case remains active, with authorities identifying it as number 260819030. Anyone who sees the vehicle or has information is asked to call 911.
