A Michigan judge has sentenced Martinez Long, 19, to two years of probation for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit following an incident at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn on July 3, 2026.

During the shooting, Cameron Watkins fatally shot Keonte Seaborn and then continued firing his gun recklessly in the mall. Long intervened and shot Watkins, ending the threat.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Long acted lawfully in self-defense and both Long and Cania Cain were charged with illegal carrying of weapons due to their lack of concealed carry permits at the time. In sentencing remarks, the judge stated: “You had a gun there in the first place, which was poor judgment.” The judge also noted that Long had no prior record and would have his conviction expunged upon successfully completing two years of probation.
