Johnny “Joey” Jones, a wounded Marine veteran who lost both legs in an incident during his service, has re-enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after nearly two decades away from active duty.
Jones was sworn back into service on May 20, 2026, at the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
The ceremony marked a significant moment for Jones, who previously served eight years in the Marine Corps and deployed twice as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician. A devastating incident in Afghanistan in 2010 resulted in the loss of both his legs and severe damage to his right forearm and both wrists.
Jones retired from active duty following that injury but has since become a prominent voice on military service and veterans’ issues. He is known for his work as a television host, having authored two New York Times bestsellers: “Unbroken Bonds of Battle” and “Behind the Badge: Answering the Call to Serve on America’s Homefront.”
Jones will continue his role as a co-host of “The Big Weekend Show” and remain active in veterans’ advocacy. He has also created a fellowship with the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
At his re-enlistment ceremony, Jones delivered a speech stating: “I am returning to service to repay a remaining debt.”
