The House of Representatives recently rejected a motion to censure Democrat Rep. LaMonica McIver following her alleged assault on ICE agents at a New Jersey detention facility in May. The vote ended 215-207, with five Republican lawmakers joining all Democratic representatives to block the measure. McIver faces federal charges for allegedly interfering with law enforcement and could receive up to 17 years in prison if convicted. Despite her pending trial, the censure effort failed, drawing criticism from opponents who argued it was a necessary step given her actions. The five Republicans who supported the decision were Reps. Don Bacon and Mike Flood of Nebraska, Dave Joyce and Mike Turner of Ohio, and David Valadao of California. Two other GOP members, Andrew Garbarino of New York and Nathaniel Moran of Texas, voted present. McIver has denied wrongdoing, calling the charges politically motivated. The vote highlighted internal divisions within the Republican Party over disciplinary actions against colleagues.
