James Fishback, a Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate, stated an “arsonist” attempted to set his home on fire while his staff was meeting.
“If anyone attacks our staff or volunteers, we will not wait for the police. We will shoot you dead,” Fishback declared in a statement. He also reported that someone tried to ignite his residence during a separate post.
According to Fishback’s campaign, the incident occurred at his home in Madison, a city east of Tallahassee near the Georgia border, on Sunday night. Flames approached his property as Fishback and staffers worked, marking his first return home in 10 weeks since launching his gubernatorial campaign.
“Yesterday, an arsonist tried to set my house on fire,” Fishback shared on Instagram. “Tonight, I’m hosting a rally at my house, where I’ll take questions and share my vision to make Florida more affordable.”
The fire department has not confirmed the incident as arson, and no suspects are currently in custody. Fishback previously drew attention for proposals including a 50% “sin” tax on OnlyFans creators, which he claimed would fund teacher pay raises and improved school lunches. He also stated his plan to fully defend Second Amendment rights as governor, including reversing gun purchase age restrictions and ending certain firearm regulations.
Fishback, the CEO of investment firm Azoria and founder of Incubate Debate, has never held political office but emphasizes delivering affordability for Floridians through measures like abolishing property taxes on homesteaded properties. He previously sued the Federal Reserve for maintaining high interest rates and filed a Supreme Court brief defending President Trump’s authority to remove federal officials.
