Thirteen people were injured when an employee shuttle bus jumped a curb and struck a concrete wall at Newark Liberty International Airport early Monday, August 31. Three individuals sustained serious injuries, though none of the victims were believed to be in life-threatening condition.

The collision occurred outside Terminal B on its Level 3 departures roadway just after 3 a.m. Eastern time.

During the emergency response, Port Authority Police directed departing passengers from Terminal B to Level 2 to address access issues; this was not an indication that the airport had shut down.

The damaged shuttle bus was towed away shortly before 8 a.m., and the third-level roadway reopened by approximately 8:30 a.m. after being closed for emergency operations. Air traffic remained unaffected.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, which is ongoing under investigation.
