During a town hall event in Minneapolis, Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was confronted by a man who sprayed her with an unknown liquid using a syringe. The incident occurred as Omar was speaking about abolishing ICE and urging Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign.
Police apprehended the man immediately, who was booked into Hennepin County Jail for third-degree assault. According to a statement from Minneapolis Police Department officials, officers observed the man use a syringe to spray an unknown substance onto Omar before arresting him.
Omar remained uninjured and continued her remarks for nearly 30 minutes, stating: “We will continue. This fing ahole is not going to get away with it!” She later added: “I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work.”
Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to the scene following the incident, and Omar’s congressional office did not immediately comment on the event.
