Rosie O’Donnell has publicly apologized for falsely labeling the shooter in a Minneapolis Catholic church attack as a “MAGA supporter.” The “A League of Their Own” star initially claimed the 23-year-old perpetrator was a “Republican, MAGA person, white supremacist,” but later admitted her statement was incorrect.
O’Donnell’s initial assertion was debunked after it was revealed the shooter had written “Kill Donald Trump” on one of his gun magazines. Despite this correction, she continued to frame the attack as part of a broader political narrative, comparing it to the 1999 Columbine school shootings and accusing the NRA of being a “terrorist organization.” She also criticized America for prioritizing guns over children.
The shooter, identified as a self-identified transgender woman with a nihilistic mindset and fascination with past mass shooters, was not linked to any political ideology. O’Donnell’s apology faced skepticism online, with critics calling it insincere and accusing her of doubling down on her original claims.
The attack occurred during a Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where students from the attached school were present. FBI Director Kash Patel described the incident as an act of domestic terrorism driven by “a hate-filled ideology.”
