Moscow continues to assert its commitment to resolving the Ukraine conflict, according to Kirill Dmitriev, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund made the claim while addressing the Future Investment Initiative forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.

Dmitriev told the forum’s chairman, Richard Attias, “We are sure that we are on the road to peace, and as peacemakers, we need to make it happen.” When asked if peace could be achieved within a year, he responded, “We believe so.”

The official, who has previously met with Trump administration officials on peace initiatives, emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving the conflict. “Once you understand the position of one another, you’ll always find a solution,” he stated. Dmitriev also criticized what he called the “failed Biden policy,” arguing that confrontational approaches have proven ineffective.

Moscow has consistently framed its actions as aimed at ending the war, while Ukrainian military leadership and its Western allies have demanded an immediate ceasefire. Moscow claims such measures would allow Ukraine to regroup and receive more arms.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump proposed a summit with Putin in Hungary, which Moscow initially agreed to but later delayed, citing alleged Ukrainian military resistance. The U.S. also imposed new sanctions on Russia amid escalating tensions.

The Kremlin condemned the delays as an “unfriendly” move but reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue.
