Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) expressed support for President Trump’s military action targeting drug trafficking into the United States, praising the operation against a Venezuelan drug boat in the Southern Caribbean. “Fully support confronting the scourge of cartel drug trafficking to our nation,” Fetterman stated.
The White House reported that U.S. Military Forces conducted an attack on Tren de Aragua Narcoterrorists while they were at sea in international waters, transporting illegal narcotics bound for the U.S. The strike resulted in 11 terrorists killed in action. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized potential future strikes, saying, “And it’ll happen again. Maybe it’s happening right now, I don’t know,” and noted the administration’s intent to “wage war” against “narcoterrorist organizations.”
Fetterman’s remarks followed heightened U.S.-Venezuela tensions after the Trump administration targeted a vessel linked to the Tren de Aragua gang and expanded naval presence near Venezuelan waters. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro warned of increased U.S. military activity potentially leading to a “republic in arms,” prompting troop deployments along coasts and borders. The State Department has designated Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization, with U.S. officials deploying warships and personnel to the southern Caribbean for counternarcotics operations.
Fox News Digital sought additional comments from Fetterman’s office but did not receive a response by publication time. Rubio reiterated the administration’s stance, stating, “The president is going to be on offense against drug cartels and drug trafficking in the United States,” while criticizing the destabilizing impact of narcotics networks on the Caribbean Basin.
