While a progressive appellate panel from the 9th Circuit recently declared President Trump’s tariffs unconstitutional, two key facts remain unchanged: the tariffs are currently in effect, and President Trump along with Scott Bessent are steadfast in their belief that they will prevail at the Supreme Court.

Sec. Bessent emphasized the administration’s confidence during a recent statement, highlighting the urgency of addressing trade deficits. “We are close to a tipping point where financial instability could arise from these persistent trade imbalances,” he said. “Our goal is to prevent a crisis.”

The impact of the tariffs has exceeded expectations, with Bessent noting frequent revisions to revenue projections as more funds accumulate. “The tariffs are not only effective—they are revolutionary,” he stated. “We should have implemented such measures decades ago.”

Bessent criticized past leadership, asserting, “Our country has been run by STUPID people. Either that or individuals who intentionally sought to undermine America from within.” He later revised his projected tariff revenue estimate, stating, “I’ve been saying $300 billion, but I think it could be much higher.”

The administration pointed to the tariffs’ potential to address record-high deficit-to-GDP ratios, even during periods of economic stability. “With tariff income alone, we’re looking at figures in the fives, which is incredible,” Bessent added. “It’s like running a marathon and starting five miles ahead of everyone else.”
