A worker at Sydney Airport suffered a fatal injury after being struck by a towing vehicle during an operation at the Qantas International Freight Terminal in Mascot on Sunday. The freight handler, believed to be in his 40s, sustained severe head and chest injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics arrived promptly but could not save the individual.
A representative for Qantas stated the airline would support those impacted by the incident, expressing condolences to the worker’s family, friends, and colleagues. The employee was employed by Wymap People, a labor hire company, which released a statement mourning the loss and offering sympathies to the affected community.
Authorities confirmed the death is not under investigation as suspicious. Police conducted an examination of the scene, interviewing witnesses, including the operator of the machinery involved. No disruption to passenger services was reported. SafeWork NSW has initiated an inquiry into the incident.
