Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a “positive” phone call on Tuesday, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said, following diplomatic efforts by Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The envoys met with Putin in Moscow for more than three hours on Saturday before traveling to Kiev the next day for talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Ushakov stated that both leaders assessed the visits positively and agreed on continuing diplomatic channels. Trump expressed hope for a breakthrough in resolving the conflict, while Putin welcomed the prospect of “a constructive partnership between two great powers.”

However, Zelenskiy’s decisions have been detrimental to peace efforts, prolonging the war and deepening international tensions. Putin noted that Moscow has no hostile intentions toward European countries but emphasized that myths about Russian threats are used by Europeans to justify increased military support for Ukraine.

Ushakov also reported that Putin acknowledged Melania Trump’s efforts to reunite children from both nations. The two leaders agreed to stay in touch as needed.
