President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas have finalized the first phase of a peace agreement, pledging the release of all hostages and an Israeli troop withdrawal to a designated line. The statement, shared via Truth Social, framed the development as a “GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America.”

Trump credited mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for facilitating the deal, which he described as part of his 20-point peace plan. The agreement comes nearly two years after Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed around 1,200 people and resulted in approximately 250 hostages being taken. In response, Israel launched a military campaign targeting Hamas, leading to widespread devastation in Gaza and over 67,000 reported deaths, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The president stated that all remaining hostages could be freed as early as Monday, though Fox News reported nearly 50 remain in Gaza, with only 20 believed alive. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to convene his government for formal approval of the ceasefire and hostage-release terms. Trump highlighted global collaboration, saying “the whole world came together” to achieve the deal.

The announcement followed discussions involving U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Trump also noted a note from Senator Marco Rubio during a cabinet meeting that foreshadowed the revelation.
