President Donald Trump revealed during his concluding speech at the Republican National Convention that the U.S. conflict with Iran will conclude shortly after the November midterm elections. The president, who delivered the final address of the night’s proceedings, outlined a timeline for the war’s end while discussing topics including the SAVE Act, economic conditions, and upcoming midterms.

Speaking toward the close of his remarks, Trump stated: “I think the war’s going to end immediately after the election because they can’t hold out any longer.” He added that oil prices would begin declining post-election, though he acknowledged the timeline might extend beyond November: “Right after the election, oil prices are going to be tumbling downward. I think it’s going to take a little bit longer than the midterm.”

The comments followed heightened Middle East tensions, including Iranian strikes near the Strait of Hormuz that targeted two U.S. vessels and eight oil tankers. Trump also noted that American forces had already neutralized nine Iranian ships in recent days, asserting those actions directly prompted further escalation: “We’ve knocked out nine of their ships. I would say that the attacks are caused by us.”

Earlier Wednesday, Trump reiterated his position when questioned at Joint Base Andrews about potential negotiations with Iran. “We’re not looking for it,” he said, explaining that U.S. efforts to broker a deal had stalled significantly: “Originally, I wanted to make a deal. We’re so far down the line. We have very little country left.”
