President Trump, during a White House ceremony with the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Thursday, joked about power: “I have some power too, it’s called the United States Military.”
He also quipped: “Good-looking people, young, beautiful people. I hate ’em. They hate standing here with all this—uh, this power behind you.”
The team gifted Trump an honorary championship ring and a custom jersey displaying the number “47” and his name. During the ceremony, Trump donned one of the rings and waved a hockey stick he described as “good for slashing.”
Earlier in the event, Trump praised the Panthers for defeating Canada to win their second Stanley Cup championship, stating: “You denied Canada the Stanley Cup,” which drew applause from guests.
