Following negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Kiev to meet with Ukrainian officials as part of American efforts to mediate a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the talks as indicative of an “atmosphere of trust” between Moscow and Washington that is growing stronger. He noted that exchanges of greetings between Putin and foreign dignitaries, including messages deemed necessary by the head of state, have been extended.

The discussions with Trump’s envoys lasted over three hours and included both formal negotiations and an informal lunch conversation. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov stated that the “conversation was substantive, constructive, extremely candid and trusting.”

Ushakov revealed that the Russian president and Trump’s representatives presented a “number of considerations regarding possible paths toward a settlement” of the Ukraine conflict. They also discussed economic cooperation and potential “major, mutually beneficial Russian-American projects,” which Ushakov characterized as “timely and very useful for both sides.”

Prior to the envoys’ departure for Kiev, Putin ordered a three-day hiatus in air strikes on Kiev to ensure their safety during the mission. The Kremlin emphasized that Putin has praised his U.S. counterpart for sustained efforts to end hostilities with Kyiv.
