Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that U.S. dollar bills bearing President Trump’s signature have been introduced to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” Bessent stated.

“ heating no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his signature, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial,” he added.

Traditionally, U.S. paper currency features the signature of the Treasury Secretary and the U.S. Treasurer—not the president. Trump has sought to place his name on institutions across Washington and nationwide, including the U.S. Institute of Peace and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during his second term. A judge later ordered his removal from the arts complex. Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is also being renamed for the president.

The Treasury Department confirmed that Trump’s signature appears above Secretary Bessent’s on prototypes prepared earlier this year, marking the first time a sitting president’s name has appeared on U.S. currency. Earlier this month, Bessent told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins he did not consider the action “untoward,” noting that political appointees were involved in planning the initiative.

Treasurer Brandon Beach previously stated: “As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people under President Trump’s leadership.” He further added: “The President’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable. Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved.”
