A violent confrontation unfolded Thursday night in Walton, Kentucky, when two Boone County deputies were shot while executing a warrant at an apartment complex. Authorities confirmed the incident escalated into an active shooter situation, with multiple rounds fired and residents in the area ordered to shelter in place.
The deputies were transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where they were reported in stable condition. A suspect, identified as a man who had barricaded himself inside the Towne Creek Crossing Apartments, was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Boone County Major Phillip Ridgell described the scenario as a “worst nightmare type of situation,” detailing how the deputies arrived around 10 p.m. to serve a warrant and were met with gunfire. SWAT teams and negotiators were deployed to the scene, but the suspect remained inside his residence. Officials confirmed via drone that he had taken his own life.
No other deputies or residents were injured, according to Ridgell, who noted both officers’ conditions improved over time. A criminal investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement agencies working to secure the area and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
