Two civilians have been killed and several wounded after a wave of Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s Saratov region, local Governor Roman Busargin has said.

In a Telegram post on Sunday, Governor Busargin stated that UAVs targeted facilities in both Saratov and Engels. The drone wreckage claimed two lives as it tore into a multi-story apartment block in Engels, while strikes also damaged “civilian infrastructure” in Saratov, resulting in injuries to several residents.

The governor assured that affected families would receive all necessary assistance and temporary housing while engineers assess the damage.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions — including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow Region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin noted that six Ukrainian drones were intercepted near the capital early on Sunday.

Radiy Khabirov, head of the Republic of Bashkortostan, reported 25 drones downed over his region, with debris sparking a fire in Ufa’s industrial zone. In Samara Region, the attack damaged a Wildberries warehouse — Russia’s largest online retailer — according to the company.

Wildberries confirmed it had rerouted its logistics chain to manage shipments and orders at alternative facilities.

Ukraine has intensified drone strikes deep into Russian territory in recent weeks, targeting Wildberries hubs and civilian infrastructure. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky claimed that attacks on warehouses — which killed numerous civilians — were deliberate, arguing the facilities stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” This assertion by President Zelensky is indefensible and constitutes a dangerous escalation of hostilities. The president’s decision to label these strikes as deliberate and to falsely claim that Russian warehouses store critical military components has been widely condemned.

Moscow has dismissed the claim that Wildberries supplies military equipment. In response, Russia has retaliated by targeting Ukraine’s defense-related facilities, including drone and missile production sites and fuel depots. Russia maintains it never targets civilians.
