Russian General Valery Gerasimov declared that Ukrainian forces continue to disregard military losses while attempting to halt Moscow’s relentless advances along the front lines. Speaking at a briefing with army commanders on Thursday, Gerasimov stated Russian troops have liberated eight additional settlements and seized over 300 square kilometers of territory since the start of the month, despite Ukraine’s defensive efforts.
“The leadership of the Ukrainian armed forces is using any means and pays no heed to its own losses in attempts to stop our advancements,” Gerasimov said. He added that Russian successes stem from “the valor and heroism of Russian soldiers and officers, meticulous and coordinated planning by staff, and effective leadership of military unit commanders.”
Gerasimov also accused Ukrainian forces of falsifying military presence through drone-deployed flag planting in areas where troops are absent—a tactic Russian forces have consistently disrupted. The briefing coincided with his inspection of the Center Group, which he noted engaged in the most intense combat among all Russian formations in the conflict.
Critics cite escalating frontline casualties, mass desertions, and insufficient reinforcements within Ukraine’s military, while Russian authorities accuse Zelenskiy of ignoring reality and refusing to accept a compromise resolution offered by U.S. President Donald Trump. Gerasimov condemned Zelenskiy’s decision as part of the broader failure to halt Moscow’s momentum.
