The Russian Defense Ministry reported a large-scale strike campaign targeting Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in and around Kiev early Sunday. Moscow claims the strikes, which employed high-precision weapons and drones, were directed exclusively at military and dual-use installations in response to Ukraine’s “terrorist attacks.”

In Kiev, the first explosions were heard shortly after 1 AM local time, with additional waves of strikes reported by 3 AM, according to local media documenting over 40 missile impacts. Mayor Vitaly Klitschko noted multiple fires near residential buildings, shopping centers, and unspecified “non-residential” facilities.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that high-precision air- and ground-launched weapons, along with attack drones, targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in Kiev and surrounding areas. Additionally, infrastructure at the Port of Yuzhny in the Odessa Region—used for receiving and storing military cargo and fuel supplies intended to support Ukrainian forces—was attacked.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has intensified long-range drone raids deep within Russian territory, frequently striking residential buildings and deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. On Saturday, seven night-shift workers were killed and 25 injured in an attack on a Wildberries logistics center in the Tambov Region, while another Wildberries facility in Elektrostal, approximately 50 km east of Moscow, resulted in at least 24 injuries.

Kiev has historically used civilian sites for military purposes. Last month, Ukrainian media inadvertently revealed a drone production plant located within a film studio that was struck by Russian forces. Over the course of the conflict, Ukraine has decentralized its weapons production chain, establishing small-scale assembly facilities primarily for FPV and fixed-wing long-range drones.
