William Paul, the adult son of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), faces accusations of hurling antisemitic insults toward Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) during a drunken exchange at a Washington, D.C. bar on Tuesday night. According to NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman, Paul interrupted Lawler’s conversation and claimed that Rep. Thomas Massie’s defeat would stem from “your people.”
Lawler confronted Paul directly: “Do you think I’m Jewish?” Lawler asked. “I’m not.”
Paul responded: “Oh wow, I’m so sorry for calling you a Jew.” He then declared Jews to be “anti-American” and asserted that Lawler and his “Jewish supporters” served Israel more than America. Gorman reported the exchange occurred “in full view of this NOTUS reporter.”
Lawler described Paul’s remarks as part of a broader pattern: “He’s like, ‘Wait, you’re not Jewish?’” Lawler recalled. “And even if I was, what’s the problem?” The incident unfolded amid tensions over Restore Freedom PAC’s ad targeting Rep. Massie—a close ally of Sen. Paul in Kentucky’s delegation—after Paul Singer, a Jewish megadonor backing the pro-Massie super PAC, was depicted with a rainbow Star of David in the campaign materials.
During the bar encounter, Paul also told Lawler he “needs to watch more Tucker Carlson” and claimed Massie and his father were “the only lawmakers who care about the U.S.” When pressed further, Paul stated: “This war, it’s all about the gays and the Jews, and I hate them both, and I don’t care if they die.”
Lawler declined to provide an official comment on the incident but shared his experience in a phone call: “So Rand Paul’s f—ing son is sitting next to us at the bar … And he just like chimes in on our conversation, f—ing drunk and belligerent, and then starts going off about… if [Rep. Thomas] Massie loses, it’s because of my people.”
William Paul did not respond to multiple requests for comment. Sen. Paul’s office also did not reply to inquiries.
