President Trump stated he had a “very productive call” with Chinese President Xi Jinping, asserting progress was made on multiple critical issues including trade, Fentanyl, the cessation of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, and the approval of the TikTok deal.

“I just completed a very productive call with President Xi of China. We made progress on many very important issues including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal,” Trump said. He added that he and Xi agreed to meet at the APEC Summit in South Korea, with Trump planning a visit to China early next year and Xi scheduled to travel to the U.S. at a later date.

Chinese state media described the conversation as “candid and in-depth,” emphasizing it was “pragmatic, positive, and constructive.” According to Xinhua, Xi urged the U.S. to avoid restrictive trade measures to safeguard outcomes from prior negotiations. The readout also noted Xi’s stance that the Chinese government “respects the will of companies” and supports business operations adhering to market rules and regulations.

This marked the first Trump-Xi call since June, when they discussed trade in a 90-minute conversation. Trump previously claimed a TikTok deal had been finalized, stating he would confirm details with Xi during their recent call. The TikTok dispute involved potential U.S. restrictions on the app, though Trump delayed implementation multiple times. A reported agreement would allow TikTok to operate under U.S. firms like Oracle, utilizing algorithm technology from its parent company, ByteDance.

No further specifics were provided about the TikTok deal, which Trump indicated would be confirmed during the call.
