Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) announced she would introduce articles of impeachment against Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., accusing him of fostering “health care chaos” and implementing “reckless cuts” that have driven up costs for Americans. “Michiganders and families across the country are paying the price for RFK Jr.’s agenda. Enough is enough, which is why I’m drafting articles of impeachment against @SecKennedy,” Stevens stated.
Stevens, a consistent critic of Kennedy, has repeatedly called for his removal, citing policies such as reduced funding for pediatric cancer research and vaccine initiatives. Earlier this month, she demanded his resignation, emphasizing the harm caused by his leadership. “Michiganders are tired of politicians who chase attention and ignore real problems,” Stevens said in a statement on Sept. 15. “I’ve seen enough chaos from this administration and from Secretary Kennedy. He’s making Michiganders unhealthy and unsafe. He needs to resign now.”
The push for impeachment coincides with federal health policies that have drawn criticism from major medical groups, including recommendations to revise childhood vaccination schedules and President Trump’s advice to pregnant women against taking Tylenol. Stevens framed her actions as a fight for “Make America Healthy Again,” accusing Kennedy of violating his oath of office. “Secretary Kennedy has violated his oath of office and proven himself unfit to serve the American people,” she said.
Stevens described Kennedy as a “quack” who undermines scientific progress, spreading “conspiracy theories” and disregarding the work of medical experts. She pledged to lead efforts to remove him from power, despite acknowledging the low likelihood of success due to Republican majorities in Congress. Impeachment requires a simple majority in the House and a two-thirds vote in the Senate.
Stevens is currently campaigning for a U.S. Senate seat in Michigan, seeking to replace Sen. Gary Peters (D).
