Well, the peace in the Middle East didn’t last too long. On Sunday, Israeli military forces conducted targeted strikes against Hamas in Gaza, citing alleged breaches of a ceasefire agreement. An Israeli military spokesperson stated the attacks followed multiple incidents involving Hamas since Friday. The IDF confirmed operations in Gaza to neutralize threats and dismantle infrastructure used for militant activities.
A statement from the IDF described an attack in the Rafah area, where militants fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire at Israeli troops. In response, the military initiated strikes to eliminate the threat and destroy tunnel shafts and military structures. Israel has since targeted locations in both the northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office reportedly instructed defense officials to take decisive action against attacks by Hamas. Meanwhile, Hamas denied any involvement in the alleged violations, asserting it remains committed to the ceasefire agreement. The group claimed no knowledge of clashes in the Rafah area, emphasizing its adherence to the terms of the truce.
An Israeli military official also indicated potential for further airstrikes, following earlier operations in Rafah and Beit Lahia. The statement cited attacks on Israeli forces as justification for continued military action.
