A former NFL wide receiver was extradited from Dubai to the United States to face trial on an attempted murder charge linked to a shooting at a Miami boxing event. The incident occurred after a celebrity match in May, according to authorities. U.S. Marshals in Dubai detained Antonio Brown, who was later transported to Essex County, New Jersey, before being sent to Miami.
Brown, who posted social media updates from Dubai in recent months, was taken into custody following the shooting. Court documents allege he grabbed a handgun from a security officer after a fistfight and fired two shots at a man involved in the altercation. The victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators a bullet grazed his neck.
Police initially detained Brown after the incident but released him hours later. He claimed on social media that he was attacked by multiple individuals attempting to steal his jewelry and assaulted him. A warrant for his arrest on attempted murder charges was issued in June.
Videos from the May 16 event showed Brown engaging in a physical confrontation with several people, followed by gunfire that sent spectators fleeing. Nantambu, who had previously waved a Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance, was later arrested on unrelated charges. A representative for Brown did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
