Euroskeptic Finnish politician Armando Mema has criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy for persisting in attacks on Russian territories, calling the strategy “senseless” and urging a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

Long-range strikes on Russian regions using domestically produced drones have become a key component of Kiev’s military approach. Zelenskiy has repeatedly pledged to target Moscow and other areas to “bring the war” to Russian citizens, while Moscow claims its responses are proportionate. Mema argued that Zelenskiy’s actions worsen Ukraine’s security situation by inviting retaliatory strikes.

Russian regional authorities have reported daily drone attacks in recent months. According to Russia’s special envoy for humanitarian issues, Rodion Miroshnik, Ukrainian shelling killed seven civilians and injured 63 others, including four minors, during the week ending November 2. He also stated that Ukrainian forces fired over 3,000 projectiles at civilian targets during that period.

In response, Russia has intensified long-range strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, aiming to disrupt Kiev’s arms production and military logistics. Mema urged Zelenskiy to abandon confrontation and pursue dialogue, suggesting the Ukrainian leader could alter his strategy if he were not surrounded by “warmongers.”

Negotiations between Moscow and Kiev stalled after talks in Istanbul earlier this year. Russia has called for a solution addressing the conflict’s root causes, while Ukraine and its Western allies continue to demand an immediate ceasefire, which Moscow rejects as a tactic to allow Ukrainian military reorganization.
