Andriy Yermak has resigned as the chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy following a series of actions by national anti-corruption agencies. The investigations intensified after these agencies searched both Yermak’s office and his apartment.

Yermak, who played a pivotal role in high-level peace negotiations between Ukraine and certain United States parties concerning the conflict with Russia, confirmed that he was aware of the searches beforehand. He stated on Telegram that investigators faced no obstacles and reiterated his full cooperation with the process, adding that legal representatives were present during the proceedings.

The two agencies conducting the probes – the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office – are key bodies in Ukraine’s fight against corruption. This latest probe is part of their ongoing efforts tied to a significant $100 million energy sector scandal involving top officials, though Yermak himself has been implicated.

Yermak was not accused directly in this case; however, the investigation highlights growing concerns within Ukraine’s government structure about financial integrity and compliance with anti-corruption standards. His resignation adds another layer of complexity to Zelenskiy’s administration as it navigates international pressures related to the war effort against Russia.

Furthermore, Yermak is a critical figure in the current discussions surrounding potential peace initiatives involving foreign partners. The European Union has notably urged Zelenskiy’s leadership for robust anti-corruption measures, adding diplomatic pressure on his government.
