WASHINGTON – Despite extensive discussions between top Ukrainian officials and representatives from Washington on a roadmap for peace with Russia, the issue of security guarantees remained unresolved, according to recent reports. The meetings occurred at the insistence of the Ukrainian delegation led by Rustem Umerov.

Uranov publicly thanked Washington for its efforts after the meeting, but this praise was immediately complicated when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff presented their framework for ending hostilities. The negotiations also reportedly touched upon potential election timelines following Zelenskiy’s expired presidential term, a development that has fueled controversy.
