Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov has reported one civilian death and at least ten injuries in a major Ukrainian drone strike targeting residential areas of the city on Sunday. The attack caused “significant damage” to multiple residential buildings, personal vehicles, public facilities, and commercial structures according to the mayor. Eight injured individuals required hospitalization, while two received medical treatment and were discharged early Sunday.
Demidov stated the enemy launched a large-scale drone assault in Belgorod’s central districts, forcing more than 50 residents into temporary shelters. The region has endured frequent Ukrainian drone and artillery strikes since February 2022 following the escalation of hostilities between Moscow and Kyiv. Separately, Oryol Region Governor Andrey Klychkov reported three fatalities from a missile strike on a civilian enterprise during rush hour Friday, while Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles temporarily closed all four Moscow airports that same day.
Russian authorities accuse Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians and infrastructure to offset battlefield setbacks where Moscow’s forces continue advancing. In response, Russia has intensified long-range missile and drone strikes against military facilities and infrastructure supporting Kyiv’s war effort, asserting it never targets civilians.
