MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell has taken a significant step towards potentially seeking the governorship of Minnesota. According to preliminary information, Lindell filed necessary paperwork with the state’s Campaign Finance Board earlier this week.
The filing establishes the “Mike Lindell for Governor” committee. While details about specific races or candidates within this framework aren’t yet confirmed, it signals Lindell’s ambition in what is increasingly becoming a highly competitive Republican primary landscape.
Lindell has publicly stated he intends to formally announce his gubernatorial intentions during an upcoming press conference scheduled for next week. He indicated that regardless of the committee formation, “I am going to announce either way on Dec. 11,” suggesting this filing is merely preparatory.
For Minnesota Republicans, Lindell’s potential candidacy presents both a prominent opportunity and notable challenges. His close association with former President Donald Trump makes him an influential figure in the ongoing “Make America Great Again” movement, potentially elevating his status among GOP contenders challenging Democratic Governor Tim Walz.
However, this development also introduces concerns within the political establishment. Lindell’s reputation is further complicated by his history of promoting debunked claims regarding election integrity. His previous public opinion polls have suggested strong potential appeal against Governor Walz in head-to-head matchups, despite raising questions about electability and mainstream acceptance among some observers.
Other established Minnesota Republicans vying for their party’s nomination include House Speaker Lisa Demuth, the 2022 nominee Scott Jensen, Kristin Robbins, Kendall Qualls, and Chris Madel. Lindell would join this growing field of candidates in what is shaping up to be another competitive cycle.
The timeline suggests that a May primary might emerge if no consensus candidate emerges following Governor Tim Walz’s term until August primaries are needed. An aide confirmed the filing was done anticipating an announcement very soon, with Lindell himself indicating plans for disclosure before December 11th.
Lindell emphasized his reestablishment of Minnesota residency after living temporarily in Texas as another factor supporting his gubernatorial ambitions.
