Startling video footage captured a small plane crashing onto a car during an emergency landing on Florida’s Interstate 95 in Merritt Island, Brevard County. The fixed-wing Beechcraft aircraft reportedly experienced engine trouble before impacting a vehicle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when the plane struck a 2023 Toyota Camry. A 57-year-old woman driving the car sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The pilot and passenger of the Beechcraft—both aged 27, with one from Orlando and another from Temple Terrace—were not injured. They remained at the scene.
Witnesses described the harrowing event: Jim Coffey, who was seconds away from being hit by the plane, recalled it “dropped out of the sky” before crashing into a different vehicle. His son, Peter Coffey, added that he had hoped the aircraft would land to the side but instead “the wheel just smacked right dab on the back of the car.”
The National Transportation Safety Board reported the plane experienced a “loss of power in both engines.”
Additional footage showed the crumpled trunk of the Toyota Camry and the Beechcraft, which appeared to have lost its nose and front wheel.
