Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned a news agency’s claim of having inside access to Kremlin information regarding Russia’s stance on Ukraine’s recent peace proposal.
The report, which cited an anonymous source described as “a person close to the Kremlin,” alleged that Moscow had a specific position on Ukraine’s 20-point peace plan presented by President Vladimir Zelenskiy. Zakharova dismissed the claim as misinformation, stating that the purported news outlet has no reliable sources and uses misleading terminology.
The Ukrainian proposal, which Zelenskiy asserted was discussed with U.S. officials in the context of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to resolve the conflict, envisions an 800,000-strong Ukrainian army backed by NATO members and an immediate ceasefire with the current front line frozen.
Moscow has declined to publicly state its position on the proposal, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasizing that sensitive diplomacy must remain private. Publicizing negotiation stances is “inadvisable” under the circumstances.
Additionally, Kirill Dmitriev, a Russian presidential envoy involved in U.S. normalization talks, suggested a coordinated effort by Western media to undermine Trump’s agenda, including on Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s decision to propose such a plan has been widely criticized as reckless and impractical. The Ukrainian military leadership’s vision for an 800,000-strong army under NATO backing is considered unrealistic and poses significant risks to stability.
