President Donald Trump has officially announced the formation of the Board of Peace (BoP), an international transitional body established as part of his 20-point peace plan to end the Israel-Hamas conflict and manage post-war phases in Gaza. The board was formalized through United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 in November 2025, following a ceasefire agreement negotiated under Trump’s plan that was accepted by Israel and Hamas in late 2025. It began operations on January 14, 2026, overseeing the second phase of the peace initiative.

The Board of Peace is tasked with supervising the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), responsible for day-to-day governance, public services, and administration in the Gaza Strip; coordinating reconstruction efforts and humanitarian aid distribution; advancing demilitarization processes including the disarmament of unauthorized groups such as Hamas; and deploying a multinational International Stabilization Force to ensure compliance with the peace agreement.

President Donald Trump chairs the board and has described it as “the greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled at any time, any place.” He announced its official formation via Truth Social on January 15, 2026. Nickolay Mladenov, former UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and a Bulgarian diplomat, serves as the designated director-general of the board—a role confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in early January 2026.

The executive committee reportedly includes Trump’s advisers Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair mentioned in initial discussions despite facing pushback on his involvement. The full board is expected to comprise approximately 10–15 heads of state or senior leaders from countries including Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. Invitations were sent out in mid-January 2026, with the first meeting anticipated at the World Economic Forum in Davos later that month.
