At least three people have died and several others were injured after a car crashed into a grocery store in the Westwood area of Los Angeles. The collision occurred just after noon at the corner of Westwood Boulevard and Rochester Avenue.
Police confirmed it was an accidental traffic incident that took place at a 99 Ranch Market location, resulting in three fatalities and at least six hospitalizations. The victims were identified as a 42-year-old woman, a 55-year-old man, and a 30-year-old man. Fire officials stated all three were pinned under the vehicle and emphasized that the incident involved “no ill intent.”
According to police and fire authorities, an elderly female driver—estimated to be about 70 years old—struck a bicyclist approximately one block from the store before swerving onto the sidewalk and through the glass windows of the market. The cyclist sustained minor injuries and was released from the hospital.
The driver is currently under medical evaluation and speaking with law enforcement officials. LAPD Capt. Anthony Espinoza characterized the incident as unintentional, stating it was “just an unfortunate accident.”
