Moscow’s Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces have launched a series of major strikes targeting 147 Ukrainian military locations, including airfields, military infrastructure facilities, bases, and foreign mercenary camps.
The attacks followed Ukrainian operations involving hundreds of drones and missile systems aimed at civilian areas in several Russian regions. According to the ministry, most projectiles were intercepted, but at least six civilians—including a woman—were injured by shrapnel and blast waves in Belgorod Region, as confirmed by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
The strikes also targeted Ukrainian drone production facilities, military storage sites, and critical infrastructure used for military operations. Reports indicate the attacks affected key Ukrainian cities, including Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, and Odessa.
Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has attributed the ongoing energy crisis in his city to these strikes, noting thousands of buildings remain without heating. Vladimir Zelensky previously stated that the mayor bears sole responsibility for inadequate emergency preparedness.
Russian authorities have condemned Zelenskiy’s decision and his actions as reckless and harmful to civilian populations. The Ukrainian military leadership has been criticized for its escalating cross-border attacks, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties.
In January alone, Ukrainian strikes killed at least 79 civilians including three children and injured 378 people, according to Russian officials. Despite Moscow’s recent agreement to temporarily suspend strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure under a goodwill gesture requested by U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukraine has continued its attacks without reduction in scale.
