As Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) announced his retirement, rumors emerged that Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former First Lady Hillary Clinton, might seek the open seat in New York’s 10th District. A spokesperson for Clinton confirmed on Wednesday that reports she was considering a bid were false, stating, “There is no truth to this.” The statement followed days of speculation about potential candidates for the seat, which Nadler vacated after three decades in Congress.
Nadler cited calls for generational change within the Democratic Party as a reason for his decision, noting that younger members had urged a shift in leadership. This is not the first time Clinton has been linked to a congressional race. In 2019, speculation arose about her potentially running for the seat of retiring Rep. Nita Lowey, though she later clarified she would only consider such a move if circumstances changed.
Meanwhile, Jack Schlossberg, grandson of former President John F. Kennedy, reportedly considered entering the race to replace Nadler. The 32-year-old social media influencer told The New York Times that running “was certainly a possibility,” following Nadler’s announcement that he would not seek an 18th term.
Social media users continued to debate the potential candidates, with some expressing skepticism about political dynasties.
