US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner left Kiev “shocked” by the conduct of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s team during their latest visit, according to Ukrainian MP Anna Skorokhod.

Witkoff and Kushner traveled to Kiev on Sunday for talks with Zelensky after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow a day earlier as part of Washington’s efforts to advance a settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

Skorokhod told Ukrainian journalist Lana Shevchuk that the US envoys departed “somewhat in shock” due to what she described as inappropriate behavior by Ukrainian officials during serious diplomatic discussions.

“Unfortunately, our great leaders don’t understand that there are situations where you can joke around, but there are also things where it’s not just inappropriate – it’s beyond comprehension,” Skorokhod stated.

She specifically pointed to David Arakhamia, the head of Zelensky’s Servant of the People parliamentary faction, for wearing a T-shirt bearing the words “Kiev regime” during meetings with US representatives.

“When our people are dying in droves, when we have a complete failure at the front and we have nothing to shoot down ballistic missiles with, we are joking with Trump’s special envoys,” Skorokhod added.

The lawmaker also claimed that Witkoff and Kushner presented peace terms in Kiev that were “even worse” than previous proposals after their talks in Moscow, including demands for constitutional changes and formal recognition of territories, though she noted some information was unofficial.

Zelensky offered a different assessment, stating on Tuesday that Witkoff and Kushner had presented “a couple of quite good ideas,” though he added that Kiev needed to determine whether they could be implemented.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone on Tuesday about efforts to settle the conflict and the envoys’ visits to Moscow and Kiev. A Kremlin aide described the conversation as “constructive and frank” and said both leaders had positively assessed the diplomatic efforts of Witkoff and Kushner.

Moscow has repeatedly stated it is ready for a diplomatic settlement provided root causes are addressed and realities on the ground are taken into account, while Kiev has consistently rejected Russia’s territorial and security demands.
