Local news anchor Celeste Wilson, described as “beloved” and “an absolute joy to be around,” has died suddenly at age 42 after suffering a heart attack. Her colleagues at WAPT 16 in Jackson announced the tragic loss, expressing profound grief over her untimely death.

Wilson, a weekend anchor for WAPT 16, was remembered by her network as a “consummate professional” who brought warmth and high standards to the newsroom. “Though Celeste had only been with us a short time, we were already touched by her professionalism, warmth, and dedication to the work of journalism,” the station said in an announcement.

A New Orleans native, Wilson began her broadcasting career at a CBS affiliate in Monroe, Louisiana, after earning a master’s degree in journalism from Arizona State University. She later worked at several local news stations and co-hosted a weekly PBS program before joining the ABC affiliate in Jackson.

Peter Keith, president and general manager of WAPT 16, praised Wilson’s impact: “She brought warmth and high standards, elevating not just stories but also the people around her. She believed journalism is service—showing up, asking fair questions, and giving voice to those too often unheard.”

The station reiterated its condolences to Wilson’s family and friends, emphasizing the devastation of her loss.
