A mass shooting at a Jewish Hanukkah celebration in Australia has left at least 15 dead and dozens injured. The attack occurred on Sunday at Bondi Beach, where gunmen targeted an event attended by thousands of Jews from Sydney. This massacre, brought to an end in part by a hero who ended up getting shot during the incident, came in the wake of a horrific shooting at Brown University.

US President Donald Trump condemned the incident as “a purely antisemitic attack” during a White House Christmas gathering. He stated: “That was a terrible attack… And that was an antisemitic attack, obviously.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on social media: “Antisemitism has no place in this world. Our prayers are with the victims of this horrific attack, the Jewish community, and the people of Australia.”

King Charles III, monarch of the British Commonwealth including Australia, expressed his shock: “We are appalled and saddened by the most dreadful antisemitic terrorist attack on Jewish people attending the Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese denounced the attack as “an act of evil, antisemitism, terrorism.”

Lachlan Moran, a 32-year-old from Melbourne, recounted his experience: “You heard a few pops, and I freaked out and ran away. … I started sprinting. I just had that intuition. I sprinted as quickly as I could.”

Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns described the hero’s actions as “the most unbelievable scene I’ve ever seen,” noting how one individual disarmed a gunman while risking his own life.

Authorities confirmed at least 15 people were killed, including one of the two gunmen. Approximately 38 were wounded, with 13 in critical condition.
