More details have emerged regarding the fatal shooting at a Dallas ICE facility on Wednesday. A sniper opened fire on the Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office, killing one detainee and injuring two others. The shooter has been identified as Joshua Jahn.
FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed that the suspect left a handwritten note expressing intent to instill fear in ICE agents. The note stated, “Hopefully this will give ICE agents real terror, to think, ‘is there a sniper with AP rounds on that roof?’” referring to armor-piercing bullets. Patel noted that Jahn allegedly conducted searches on apps tracking ICE agents and downloaded a document titled “Dallas County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management,” which includes a list of DHS facilities.
Investigations revealed Jahn performed multiple searches on ballistics information and the “Charlie Kirk Shot Video” between September 23-24. He also searched for ICE agent-tracking apps from August 19-24. A recovered note indicated premeditation, with Patel emphasizing a “high degree of pre-attack planning.” Jahn died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
FBI Dallas and FBI HQ are actively analyzing devices, data, and writings from the scene and Jahn’s residence. The bureau has stated it will provide further updates as available.
